Historical Foundation of the United Sates Constitution

The Constitution of the United States was divided into three main branches of the government, namely legislature (bicameral congress), executive branch (led by the President) and judiciary (headed by Supreme Court). Different documents were ratified in able to come up with this kind of federal government. Thus, the constitution states the different powers and duties that should be carried out by each branch. In overall, the constitution of the United States is the most powerful document and reserves all the rights of powers not enumerated for the respective states, giving rise to federal system type of government.

Magna Carta
Magna Carta is a document that was signed by King John of England and became the basis for every English citizens rights. This document was forced to by the King and makes him govern by the old English laws that had prevailed during that time. It was a document established that the supremacy of the king could be limited by a written grant. The content of this document was drafted by Archbishop Stephen Langton which was considered as the most powerful Barons of England during his time.

This document contains the following provision a) the church should be free from any interference especially when it comes fro the selection of bishop, b) no taxes should be imposed to the church except if it is imposed by the Great Council (Parliament), c) the right for due (led by trial by jury) and, d) all weights and measures should be kept consistent during the whole empire.

Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower Compact was a written document created by the settlers and the first laws for the Plymouth Colony. This was written because the Mayflower landed in a part of North America where English law had no control. This laws were guided the settlers to well until their society became intricate enough to need additional strategies or guidelines for them. In this document all the passengers that leave the Mayflower had to sign an agreement known as the Mayflower Compact (composed of all men). This was primarily based on the majoritarian model (signers were not member of the majority) and the settlers commitment to the king. This is said to be said to be the essence of social contract in which the settlers consented to follow the rules and regulations of the contract for the sake of survival.

Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson and was adopted by the Second Continental Congress stating the basis for the British Colonies and giving independence for North America. This document contains the proposed colonial government trying to reach peaceful reconciliation of their differences against with Great Britain who eventually being ignored. It contains appeal to the British citizens to have equal rights since they shared similar heritage and cause and independence on their own homeland. Thus, after many peaceful attempts, they gain independence from Great Britain and new nation will be called United States of America that will have no further connections with the Great Britain.

Articles of Confederation
Articles of Confederation were referred to as the first constitution of the United States of America and legally established the union of the different states. It was articles created a nation that was a league of friendship and perpetual union (Frederic, 2004). The state government retained all of the power under the articles, with only little power given to the central government. Thus, the central government received little respect and was not able to accomplice much because it ha little authority over states or individuals in America. The Articles were finally ratified by the last of the 13 American States in 1781 and become the ruling document in the new nation.

Federalist Papers
Federalist papers were composed of eighty-five essay on the proposed Constitutions of the United States and the nature of the Republican Government. It was published primarily by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Ray in attempt to encourage the voters of New York to support the endorsement paper. Most of the essays were first appeared serially in New York newspapers then reprinted in other states and appeared as a book in1788. In this book, the author presented a masterly description of the federal system and the resources of attaining the principles of justice, rights of individuals and general welfare.

Conclusion
The members of the Constitutional Convention formally signed constitution of United States on September 17, 1787. The Constitutional Convention convened in reply to discontent with the Articles of Confederation and the necessity for a well-built government. The Constitution was eventually ratified due to many subsequent events and the new Federal government came into subsistence in 1789. Today, the Constitution of United States Government still exist although few modification has been made.
